Medical Technology Association of Australia is the peak body representing the medical technology industry in Australia, supporting members to navigate regulatory, procurement and ESG expectations.
As modern slavery due diligence expectations rapidly evolve across healthcare procurement and global supply chains, Seed & Signal collaborated with MTAA to deliver a practical capability-building webinar for its members.
Challenge
MedTech companies operating in Australia — particularly distributors, importers and local subsidiaries — face:
Increasing expectations from government and healthcare buyers to demonstrate credible due diligence
Complex global supply chains with limited direct control over upstream risks
A shift from compliance-based reporting toward demonstrable risk management and impact
Uncertainty about what constitutes proportionate, “good” practice in this context
MTAA required a session that was practical, sector-specific and immediately applicable.
Approach
Seed & Signal designed and delivered the national webinar:
“Managing Modern Slavery Risk in MedTech: Practical Tools, Levers and Next Steps”
The session focused on:
Explaining evolving regulatory and procurement expectations
Including the shift toward stronger due diligence requirements
Identifying where modern slavery risk typically sits in MedTech supply chains
Clarifying what organisations can control and influence locally
Particularly for distributors and subsidiaries
Providing practical tools and internal levers
To support procurement readiness and risk management
Working through a practical case study
To demonstrate how these concepts apply in real-world decision-making
The content was grounded in global frameworks and Australian guidance, translated into clear, proportionate and actionable steps for participants.
Outcome
Strong engagement from MedTech professionals across ESG, procurement, legal and commercial functions
Improved understanding of risk hotspots and regulatory expectations
Increased confidence in responding to tender and procurement requirements
Clear, practical next steps to strengthen supplier due diligence and internal processes
The session brought together over 60 participants across the MedTech ecosystem, reflecting strong sector interest and relevance.
Member & Participant Value
Participants gained:
A clear understanding of what modern slavery risk means in practice
Practical tools to strengthen risk management and procurement readiness
Insight into how to take credible, proportionate action within complex supply chains
For MTAA, the session supported:
Delivery of high-quality, industry-relevant ESG capability building
Strengthening member readiness for evolving regulatory and procurement expectations
Positioning modern slavery as a core governance and business issue, not just a reporting requirement
Seed & Signal supports organisations to move beyond compliance — strengthening governance, capability and decision-making to manage modern slavery and human rights risks in practice.
